secret blog page :)

: i bought an orange clamshell ibook g3 from a second-hand store over 15 years ago. it was cute! it's the very original model, m2453, so it has the least memory and the slowest processor and the smallest hard drive. i installed mac os 9 onto it and poked around a little, then i installed os x 10.2 or something and poked around a little, then i installed some powerpc version of ubuntu onto it and poked around a little, but i never really had any use for it and it never could really do anything that interesting either. i got onto some websites with the ancient microsoft internet explorer version that came with mac os 9, and that was a cool experience i guess, and i played a few java games that were old enough to work on it. but an honest appraisal of the machine is that the only good thing about it is its cute looks: its specs are bad, its battery life is bad (even with a new third-party battery), its power brick is bad (the power brick fried the inverter, so it doesn't even turn on any more), its connectivity is arguably worse than the 12-inch macbook, its screen is unpleasantly bad by modern standards, it's horrible to service or upgrade, and it can't be upgraded to a level that would be interesting rather than just unpleasant. there are better old macs to do old mac stuff with. lately i've been thinking about retrocomputing, and how it's not a hobby i'm interested in any more, so i'm getting rid of all the ancient computers i bought in second-hand stores 15 years ago. machines with gen x nostalgia like the commodore 64 sell well, but nobody seems to be interested in a cute orange clamshell ibook; even old mac collectors don't want them. it's sad, because the machine is cute, but i do think the reasonable course of action here is to responsibly dispose of the machine; it's not worth repairing, and even if it worked it can't do anything useful, so its only value is in the gold and mercury and cadmium in it now.

: i created a blog page. i don't intend to use it a lot.

i think the ten-year anniversary of this website is some time this year, i don't know exactly when, since this has lived in a few places.
