the first living creatures to fly in a hot-air balloon were a sheep called montauciel, a duck and a rooster and they flew in 1783; the sheep approximated a human and the birds were controls, especially the rooster since it was a bird that didn't fly high.

One log makes eight sticks. A fence crafting recipe needs four planks and two sticks, or one log's worth of planks and a quarter of a logs worth of sticks; five logs would make sixteen planks (for four fence recipes) and eight sticks (for four fence recipes), so five logs make four fence recipes, and at three fences per recipe that makes twelve fences per five logs. 10 logs make 24 fences, 20 logs make 48 fences, 25 logs make 60 fences. Two logs, on the other hand, make two fence gates: one log makes eight sticks, another makes four planks, and each fence gate recipe needs four sticks and two planks.

i asked the question: "when writing characters in html as &#-escaped entities, is it more efficient to use decimal notation (ᴥ) or hexadecimal notation (ᴥ)? at what point, if any, does hex become more efficient?" the short answer is yes: decimal is more efficient, all because of the extra x in hex notation. the longer answer: for most of the 1114112 possible Unicode characters, both representations are equally long. Only at U+F4240 (󴉀) does decimal notation become longer, far in the unassigned high wastes, but then decimal becomes equally long again at U+100000 (􀀀). The ranges where decimal is shorter are discontinuous, and start at a power of two: the zeroeth range is in the control characters from 0 to 9, the first is in the control characters 16 to 31 and continues from space (32, U+20) to c (U+63, "c"), then from Ā (U+100, "Ā") to ϧ (U+3E7, "ϧ"), then from က (U+1000, "က") to ✏ (U+270F, "✏"), then finally from 𐀀 (U+10000, 𐀀) to 𘚟 (U+1869F, "𘚟").

Nine minutes and eleven seconds to lavacast a two-by-three tower that's 28 blocks tall, so just under 20 seconds per layer on average, or three layers a minute. The technique used was placing lava twice in two opposite corners and letting it convert three blocks into stone, using two water buckets. Focusing and working quickly, with no sleeping break, I was able to cast 10 layers in 171 seconds, or just about 17 seconds per layer.

Minecraft iron chain math: A chain needs two iron nuggets and one iron bar, i.e. 1+(2⁄9) iron bars = 11⁄9 iron bars. 11 whole bars can be turned into 9 chains with no leftover material, with two bars converted to 18 nuggets first. Eleven iron blocks can be neatly made into 81 chains, with two blocks being turned into nuggets (162 in total, 128+34) and the other nine turned into 81 bars. 81=64+17.
Latitude-longitude decimal coordinate precision: in rough orders of magnitude, plain degrees are precise to 100 km, the first decimal is precise to 10 km, the second decimal is precise to 1 km, the third decimal is precise to 100 m, the fourth decimal is precise to 10 m, and the fifth decimal is precise down to 1 m. Precisions better than the sixth decimal are unlikely to be accurate except with proper professional equipment. Latitudes are constant, but longitudes get squashed together. 1° is 111 km of latitude; at 30°N it's ~96 km, at 45°N it's 78 km, at 60°N it's 55 km, at 75 deg it's 28 km.
Degree-arcminute-arcsecond coordinate precision: degrees are precise to about 100 km. Tens of minutes are precise to about 18 km of latitude (with longitudes being this or less, because they get squashed together). Single minutes are precise to about 2 km, or one nautical mile. Tens of seconds are precise to 300-ish meters, single seconds are precise to 30 m, and tenths of seconds are precise down to 3 m.
NN° EE° is precise to a few hundred kilometers. NN.nn EE.ee is precise to about 1 km, NN.nnnn EE.eeee to 10 m, NN.nnnnn EE.eeeee to about 1 m. NN° nn′ EE° ee′ is precise to a few kilometers, NN° nn′ nn″ EE° ee′ ee″ is precise to some tens of meters or a hundred feet, and NN° nn′ nn.nn″ EE° ee′ ee.ee″ is precise to under a meter or about one foot.
The precision of a Plus Code is indicated by the number of digits after the "+" sign. Two digits after the plus sign is an area roughly 13.7 by 13.7 meters; three digits after the plus sign is an area roughly 2.7 by 3.5 meters; four digits after the plus sign is an area roughly 0.5 by 0.8 meters. A decent decoder of Plus Codes.
9GG60000+ = Southwestern edge approximately at Ingå; covers Upinniemi but not Porkkala; covers all of Espoo; covers the western (city center) peninsula of Helsinki; the eastern edge is approximately at the eastern edge of Mustikkamaa, bisects the graveyard island north of Kulosaari, passes east of the Viikinmäki tram stop; approximately follows trunk road 45 north of the interchange with Ring III; passes just east of the airport; the northern edge of this area is in Hämeenlinna, but stops just south of the castle itself, with the vast majority of the gridded area of the city center being within 9GG6; municipalities entirely within 9GG60000+ incude Espoo, Kirkkonummi, most of urban Lohja, Nummela, Vihti, Karkkila, Loppi, Hyvinkää and Riihimäki. 9GG70000+ is immediately to the east; its southern edge is well into the gulf of Finland, and its northern edge reaches to Lahti, passing just south of Ankkurin Rantapuisto and thus most of the city is in this area; the eastern edge of 9GG7 reaches far past Porvoo: Villmans and Forsbyå are in this area, but Pernå and Garpgård aren't; some of the Pyhäjärvi northeast of Myrskylä is in this area but the eastern edge passes perhaps 100 m west of Villikkalanjärvi to its north; in the capital region basically all of Vantaa west of road 45 after its interchange with Ring III is in 9GG7 but the interchange itself isn't; in Helsinki, all of Ala-Malmi but only some of Ylä-Malmi are here; Tapanila is definitely in this area but Tapaninkylä isn't, Suutarila is for the most part but a few houses at its western edge stay out; all of Pihlajamäki's long apartment buildings are in this area (the westernmost only by a few meters) but the Uusi yhteiskoulu to their north isn't; everything east of Viikki and Herttoniemi are in this area, Laajasalo is entirely in this area, Vallisaari gets bisected; Sompasauna in Mustikkamaa is outside this area but some meters of the beach are in it; in Kulosaari everything east of the tennis hall and Brändö Gymnasium are in this area.
